Visiting During Ramadan

Visiting during the holy month of Ramadan is a memorable cultural experience — with a few things worth knowing first.

What changes

Many people fast from dawn to sunset. Hours shift, some venues open later, and the atmosphere is calmer by day and festive at night. Hotels and tourist sites operate as normal.

Etiquette

Out of respect, avoid eating, drinking or smoking in public during daylight hours. Dress modestly and keep music and behaviour low-key in public spaces during the day.

The magic of iftar

After sunset the cities come alive. Sharing an iftar — the meal that breaks the fast — at a hotel tent or local restaurant is one of the warmest, most authentic experiences the UAE offers.
